Production: from the bill of materials to recorded consumption

The BOM describes an expected structure; consumption records what was actually used. The comparison makes the transition from components to the finished product more legible.

Production bills of material

  1. Open Bills of Materials and identify the product to be created.
  2. Define or consult components and quantities needed for the planned production unit.
  3. Check the references, units and version of the bill before using it in a manufacturing order.
  4. Validates according to the business process and maintains the link to the finished product.

Consumption, finished products and traceability

  1. Open the manufacturing order and check the expected and already recorded quantities.
  2. Indicates the actual consumption of the components with relevant warehouses and batches.
  3. Records the finished products produced distinguishing expected, actual and residual quantities.
  4. Compare movements and order status before declaring the production cycle complete.

Putting this into practice

Before following a manufacturing order, check the components and quantities on the list. Upon registration, check relevant references and traceability to make the result interpretable.
