Private E2EE: prepare your device and recovery before your first file

Private E2EE protection moves encryption and decryption operations to the browser. To use confidential documents continuously, preparing the device and encrypted backup is part of the initial work.

Private E2EE: The workflow for confidential documents

  1. Open the Private E2EE area of the subscription you need to work in.
  2. Use the verified device and encrypted backup associated with your keys.
  3. Unlock content in browser: passphrase and decryption operations remain on the device.
  4. Keep Private and Office workflows separate on the service: E2EE content is not sent in clear text to the server viewer.

Create the device and keep the encrypted backup

  1. Open the Private device manager and prepare a confidential passphrase, distinct from the account password.
  2. Create keys on the device by following the interface commands.
  3. Export and store the encrypted backup in a controlled location; the backup file and passphrase are used to reuse those keys.
  4. Check that you recognize the device and its fingerprint before continuing with registration.

Putting this into practice

Before entrusting important documents to the Private workflow, complete the required preparation and store the recovery material according to company rules. Check that you can recognize the device you are working with.
