KPI and OTIF: from dashboard signals to follow-up deliveries

An indicator serves to direct attention. To decide what to do, the next step is to go back to the results and the deadlines that determine it, verifying the context of the calculation.

Dashboard and KPI reading

  1. Configure the order of the graphs in the preferences and return to the home page. Available graphs include statuses, completions, workloads, and delay monitoring.
  2. Before interpreting an indicator, check the project, period and data selected from the chart. A view without data does not demonstrate positive performance.
  3. Choose a critical issue and trace the related set of deliverables or activities. The graph guides the verification but does not replace the operational details.
  4. After a job update, check the situation again. Maintain consistent progress criteria to make indicators comparable.

OTIF and delayed results

  1. In the preferences, locate OTIF by project and the graphs or lists dedicated to delays. Select the project to analyze on the home page.
  2. Check which results and dates contribute to the value. An on-time comparison requires a target deadline and a reliable completion status.
  3. Learn more about the reported deliverables and compare deadlines, estimated completion, actual completion and progress. Delay forecast and actual delay are different information.
  4. Agree corrective actions with managers and verify updates in detail. Don’t change the expiration just to improve the graph.

Putting this into practice

If the dashboard reports delays, open the affected references and check the status and expected date. Comparison becomes useful when it leads to a recognizable action on the project.
