- Check that the project has deliverables and tasks before starting. Prepare resources, availability and reference calendar.
- In the manual scheduling function check the required row and values: start date, assignment, work and progress when expected.
- Use the available preview to observe the effect of the changes before confirming. Do not use a load estimate as if it were a certain date.
- After saving compare Gantt and saturation. Verify that assignments are achievable against plan capacity and dependencies.
Forced dates and plan preview
- Identify the row to modify and compare the requested date with the resource’s calendar, dependencies and availability.
- The preview functions also handle forced start or stop. Treat them as constraints to be motivated, not as an automatic solution to overloads.
- Review the preview and verify work, assignment, progress and resulting dates before confirming the change.
- After confirmation, re-read related activities and saturation. If the result is inconsistent, fix the cause of the constraint and not just the Gantt aspect.
Putting this into practice
If a delivery is brought forward, check the work involved and compare the resulting plan. The goal is to understand how much effort is needed, not just to show a closer date.
